New York is currently an ice block, but with CW’s mom visiting from California, we wanted to show her the town. In spite of a chilly wait, we made it to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the David Hockney retrospective. To be honest, I was more familiar with his set design than his painting. His renderings of pools and palm trees definitely left me California dreaming, but my favorite pieces were his collages mashed together from hundreds of photos. Witnessing such experimentation compelled me to sketch when I got home.
